Ellie Shannon was promoted in Oct. 2022 as Wake Forest Athletics' Senior Associate AD of Administration and Strategic Operations. In her current role, Shannon is a member of director of athletics John Currie's senior staff and is tasked with applying her operational knowledge to a variety of projects and functions across Athletics. Additionally, she serves as the sport administrator for women’s basketball, men’s golf and women’s golf.

Shannon's daily responsibilities has included providing operational support and leadership in the planning of football postseason bowl logistics, assiting the Deputy AD/COO with various projects across a variety of units within Athletics and she has managed the preparation and processing of all ACC and NCAA postseason bids. She also develops and implements revenue and sponsorship plans and serves as primary contact for Athletics with the Winston-Salem Open (an ATP World Tour 250 event) and she assists in the management of ASM Global and LJVM Coliseum

She originally joined the staff at Wake Forest in 2012-13. She advanced from Associate Director to Director of Event Management a few years later in 2019 when she was promoted to Associate AD, Athletic Event and Facility Operations. Additionally, she was promoted again to Senior Associate AD, Athletic Event and Facility Operations in Jan. 2022.

In her previous roles, Shannon serveed as the primary gameday event manager for the Demon Deacons football and men's basketball programs. She previously oversaw women's basketball, field hockey and men's and women's tennis. She was responsible for the development and monitoring of all athletic department scheduling policies and procedures and the implementation of EMS scheduling software. 

A native of Otisville, Mich., Shannon came to Wake Forest following a year (2011-12) at UConn as the Huskies' event manager where she managed many postseason tournaments.She began her career in event management as a graduate assistant at Kansas State University (2010-11) and as an intern at Grand Valley State University (2008-10).

Shannon graduated from Grand Valley State with a bachelor's of science degree in physical education with an emphasis in sport management and a minor in business. She then went on to earn her Master's of Science degree in College Student Personnel with an emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics from Kansas State.

Shannon is married to her wife, Julie, and they have a daughter, Clarke.
