No. 6 Wake Forest Falls to No. 19 Virginia in Overtime
10/16/2026 8:14:00 PM | Field Hockey
The Deacons return to action on Sunday against Davidson.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 6 Wake Forest field hockey team fell to No. 19 Virginia on Friday evening.
Wake Forest was held scoreless with 5 shots on the night.
Virginia was held scoreless through four, capitalizing on their final shot three minutes into overtime.
Sophomore goalie Ruby Butterfield recorded four saves on the day. She faced six shots on goal.
How It Happened
"Our fundamental skills let us down in this game. Our ability to possess without pressure let us down. Defensively, we had a big showing against several counter attacks that I think there was growth there. However, we explained over and over the situation that eventually led to the goal, and those are the areas we need to grow from."
The Deacs will stay at home to face Davidson on Sunday at 12 p.m.
