Dave Wiedeman captained Wake Forest's 1963 basketball team and was a key member of the Deacons' ACC championship teams in 1961 and 1962. He was third on the team in scoring with 11.7 points per game as a junior as the Deacons reached the Final Four. He led the team in scoring as a senior with nearly 14 points per game including a career-high 30 points in the season-opener vs. Minnesota. Known for his outstanding defensive abilities, Wiedeman shared team MVP honors with Len Chappell in 1962 and repeated the honor in 1963.
Wiedeman coached high school basketball in New Jersey for 33 years, compiling a record of 485-205 before retiring in 1996. He won two high school state championships and was inducted into both the New Jersey Interscholastic Athletic Association Hall of Fame and the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame.
