Wake Forest Storms Past Maryland, 3-1

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Wake Forest registered 76 kills as a team en route to a 3-1 road victory over Maryland Friday evening. The Deacons notched their sixth ACC win of the season, following a 3-0 loss at the hands of Virginia on Tuesday.
Wake was able to outscore the Terrapins in the first and last games 17-15, holding Maryland to a .070 hitting percentage in the final game. The Deacs rallied from game-point down in each game. The Terps led the visiting Deacons 14-13 and 15-14 in the first game, and 6-4 in the second game, which saw an 11-3 run by Wake Forest. The Deacons gave up 20 kills to Maryland in the third game and, after winning the second game 15-9, dropped the third 15-8.
Sophomore outside hitter Trina Maso de Moya again paced Wake Forest, recording a double-double with 25 kills and 27 digs in the match. Senior outside hitter Sharon Harmsworth also posted a double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs. Junior setter Julie Cowley had a match-high 67 assists in the win.
Maryland's Beth Murphy had 18 kills and 12 digs and Kate Hannas also turned in a double-double with 13 kills and 19 digs.
Wake Forest improves to 19-6 overall and 6-4 in ACC play. The Deacons stay on the road and will travel to Florida State for a Tuesday evening match in Tallahassee, FL.
