GREENVILLE, S.C. - Wake Forest shot an event-best 292 on the final day of the Lady Paladin Invitational, hosted by Furman University, to take team honors with a three-round score of 892.

The Deacons ended the tournament, played on the Par 72 Furman Golf Course, 16 strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. The University of Texas finished in second place with a 908.

Angela Stanford of Texas Christian took medalist honors after winning a playoff with Deacon freshman Maria Beautell. Stanford shot an event-best 69 in the final round to finish with a 216. With a three-round 216, Beautell was Wake Forest's top finisher, shooting a 70 on the first day and another 70 on Sunday.

Nuria Clau, a freshman, shot one-under in the final round to finish with a 224 and tied for sixth. Junior Marta Prieto also finished in the top-20, tying South Carolina's Kristy McPherson for 19th place. Prieto shot a three-round 229. Senior Kelly Kirwin took her highest finish of 1999 at Furman. Kirwin shot a 231 to tie four others for 21st. Sophomore Katie Brenny also finished high, tying five others for 30th with a three-round 234.

The first-place finish was Wake Forest's highest team finish of the fall season, and the event marked Beautell's best finish of her career. Prieto's 19th-place finish and Kirwin's 21st-place are season-bests. The Deacons rounded out their fall season at Furman, and will begin competing again in February, when the team travels to the SMU-OSU Regional Challenge in Los Angeles, CA.
