BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Senior cross country runner Janelle Kraus was Wake Forest's only competitor in Monday's NCAA Championships held at Indiana University. Kraus placed 19th on the 5K course in Bloomington with a time of 17:14, her second best time this season.
Her finish qualifies her as an All-American, the second such honor she has received. In 1998, Kraus was named to the All-American team after finishing 27th at the NCAA Championships with a time of 17:17. Kraus competed on an individual basis after Wake Forest failed to qualify for the event as a team. Her 17th-place finish in the NCAA Regionals in Greenville, SC qualified Kraus as an individual for the national race.
Erica Palmer, a sophomore from Wisconsin, won the event in 16:39.50, almost five seconds ahead of the nearest runner. The meet featured 254 runners, including 31 teams.
