WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Wake Forest women's cross country team will compete in their third meet of the 1998 season this weekend at the Iona Meet of Champions in Van Cortland Park, N.Y.
The Demon Deacons, led by junior All-American Janelle Kraus, are off to a fast start to the season, posting team wins in each of their first two meets of the year.
The meet at Iona will be a homecoming of sorts for Kraus, who hails from Shelter Island, N.Y.
KRAUS PICKS UP IN 1998 WHERE SHE LEFT OFF IN 1997
For junior standout Janelle Kraus, it must seem like her wonderful season of 1997 never ended.
Last year, Kraus captured four individual titles, including the ACC Championship, en route to earning All-America and All-ACC honors.
This season, Kraus has picked up where she left off by capturing the individual title in each of the first two meets in which Wake Forest has competed. Kraus now owns six individual titles in her outstanding career and will look to add to that total this week at the Iona Meet of Champions.

KRAUS EARNS ACC PERFORMER OF THE WEEK HONORS TWICE
Junior Janelle Kraus is certainly one of the top runners in the Atlantic Coast Conference. And in 1998, she has put up the results to prove it, earning the ACC's Performer of the Week award in each of the first two weeks of the season.
The award is nothing new to Kraus, however. She captured the honor a league-high four times last season.
SELVIDIO OPENS 1998 WITH STRONG PERFORMANCES
Although running in the shadow of Janelle Kraus, junior Emily Selvidio has quietly put together a very strong start to the 1998 season. Selvidio has turned in Top 10 finishes in each of the first two meets of the season, including a third-place finish at the Appalachain State Invitational.
Selvidio, who has struggled with injuries throughout her career, is now in excellent condition and is poised for an outstanding season this fall.
DEMON DEACONS EARN #14 RANKING IN PRESEASON POLL
Coming off a strong finish in 1998 and returning a number of key performers, the Wake Forest women's cross country team has earned No. 14 national ranking in the Women's Cross Country Coaches Association pre-season poll.
BYU is ranked first in the poll, receiving eight of nine first-place votes. Stanford placed second while Dartmouth, Colorado and Michigan rounded out the top five.
Wake Forest is ranked second in the Southeast Regional rankings, trailing only ACC-rival NC State.
WALLACE AND SNYDER SHINE, TOO
Adding even more depth to head coach Francie Goodridge's squad is senior Amy Wallace and junior Jill Snyder, who have both posted solid results in the early-going of 1998. Each has recorded a Top 10 finish in both the Appalachian State Invitational and the Lou Onesty Invitational. Wallace placed fifth in both meets (18:31 and 18:14) while Snyder turned in a sixth place finish at Appalachian State (18:31) and a eighth place mark at the Lou Onesty (18:22).
