Doubles' Quarterfinals Set for ACC Indoors

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Five of the top eight doubles seeds failed to advance to the quarterfinals of the 1999 Atlantic Coast Conference Indoor Men's Tennis Championships as the tournament opened at the Indoor Tennis Center this afternoon.
The number three, four, five, six and seven seeds were all eliminated from the tournament in the second round. Florida State's duo of Ty Braswell and Davidson Kozlowski, the number three seed, were downed by Duke's team of Marko Cerenko and Andres Pedroso, 8-4. North Carolina's sixth seeded combo of David Cheatwood and Michael Grass were outlasted 9-8 (6) by Virginia's Tommy Croker and Huntley Montgomery.
Holding serve however was Myles Clouston and Raul Munoz of top seeded Wake Forest. The Deacons defeated Clemson's Darren Knight and Marko Gojanovic, 8-5. Duke's Doug Root and Pedro Escudero, the number two seed advanced to the quarterfinals as did Georgia Tech's Roberto Suarez and Robert Wright, the eighth seed.
The tournament continues on Friday beginning at 8 a.m with the first round of singles' competition. The quarterfinals of the doubles' tournament will begin at approximately 5 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. Round two of singles' play will begin immediately following the completion of the first match of round one, approximately 11:30 a.m.
