Kraus Opens 1998 Season with a Bang

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest junior Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY) opened the 1998 cross country season last weekend at the Appalachain State Invitational by picking up where she left off last fall, earning Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week honors in the process.
Kraus, a 1997 All-American and the 1997 ACC champion, finished first at the meet after clearing the 5,000 meter course in a time of 17:44. She beat the nearest competitor by 17 seconds to pick up her fifth career individual title.
She won the season-opening Appalachian State Invitational for the second consecutive season in helping lead Wake Forest to a first place team finish.
Kraus will be back in action this weekend as the Wake Forest women's cross country team will compete at the ACC Preview in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, September 12.
