WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Josh Howard, a 1998 first team all-state performer from nearby Glenn High School, has signed a letter of intent to join Coach Dave Odom's program at Wake Forest.
The 6'6 Howard averaged 26 points, 13 rebounds and six blocked shots per game as a senior at Glenn before attending Hargrave Academy in Chatham, VA, this past year. He was awarded the "Frank Spencer Award" as the top player in northwest North Carolina by the Winston-Salem Journal as both a junior and senior.
This past year at Hargrave, Howard averaged 19.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while helping the school to a 27-3 record. He shot 56 percent from the floor, including hitting 44 percent of his three-point attempts, and made 85 percent of his free throws.
Howard is the only prospect to sign with Wake Forest this year. The Demon Deacons lose just one senior, forward Joseph Amonett, from their 1998-99 squad. Also joining the active roster next year will be 6'10 junior Tate Decker, who transferred to WFU from Missouri a year ago.
