Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Jordan Intercollegiate

PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga.-- Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) shot a 71 in the final round of the G. Gunby Jordan Intercollegiate to earn his first top 10 finish of the year, placing sixth individually at 1-under par. Wake Forest finished tied for fifth place in the team standings, firing a team score of 294 in the final round.
The event was played on the 6,904-yard, par-72 Callaway Gardens Mountainview Course in Pine Mountain, Ga. Mississippi State led the field from start to finish, finishing at 8-under par to win the tournament by 10 strokes. Maryland finished in second place at 2-over, Columbus State was third at 11-over, and Virginia Commonwealth placed fourth at 18-over. The Deacs tied with Mississippi for fifth place with an overall score of 23-over par.
Capone finished just four strokes back of the event's champion, Alex Rocha of Mississippi State, who defeated Maryland's Keith Unikel in a playoff for medalist honors. WFU senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) and freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) both shot 75's in the final round to finish at 24th and 27th place, respectively. Sanchez was 7-over for the tournament, while Morgan was 8-over. Junior Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) shot a 73 today to finish 40th at 12-over par , while senior Juan Vizcaya (Madrid, Spain) shot a 77 and placed 59th at 17-over.
