Men's Golf Struggles in Dallas

DALLAS - The Wake Forest men's golf team struggled in the final round of the Taylor Made Red River Classic, recording a team round of 308, or 20-over par, to finish in last place out of 15 teams. The event was played on the 6,766-yard, par-72 course at the Dallas Athletic Club.
The Demon Deacons stood in 13th place after two rounds of play yesterday, shooting 287 in the first round and 293 in the second to stand at just 4-over par. No Deacon carded a score lower than 74 on Tuesday, however, and two players shot in the 80's, as the Deacs recorded the highest team round of the tournament. Wake finished the event 57 strokes behind the team champion, Houston.
Senior Michael Capone (Cranston, RI) held his place in the individual top 20 with a 74 in the final round to finish tied for 16th at 3-under par. Capone was 20 strokes behind the individual champion, Texas' David Gossett.
Freshman Jay Morgan (Choctaw, OK) also carded a 74 on the final 18 to finish tied for 53rd at 4-over par, while senior Oscar Sanchez (Canary Island, Spain) finished 69th at 9-over after recording a 78. Junior Jamie Gallacher (Surrey, England) and senior Thomas Parker (Laurinburg, NC) shot an 84 and an 82 to finish 80th and 83rd repectively. The Deacons are back in action next week at the Duke Golf Classic on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 12-13.
