DURHAM, N.C.--Jeremy Ward pitched a complete-game shutout to propel Wake Forest to a 3-0 victory over North Carolina and into the 1998 ACC Baseball Championship game against Florida State.
Ward, who improves to 9-9 on the season, gave up only seven hits and one walk while striking out eight Tar Heels before 3,431 fans.
The Deacons, who scored one run in the fourth and two in the sixth, were led offensively by Jon Palmeiri, who was 2-for-5 with an RBI and Danny Borrell, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI, respectively.
North Carolina coach Mike Roberts was ejected in the sixth inning after arguing a check swing call against Wake Forest.
Wake takes on the Seminoles tonight at 8:00 p.m. est. to decide the champion of the ACC Tournament.
