WINSTON-SALEM, NC --Wake Forest junior Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY / Shelter Island) earned Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week honors for the third time this season after her outstanding performance at the Iona Meet of Champions last weekend in Van Cortland Park, N.Y.

Kraus, a 1997 All-American and the 1997 ACC champion, finished first at the meet after clearing the 5,000 meter course in a time of 17:35. She beat the second-place competitor by 29 seconds to pick up her seventh career individual title and her third of the season. Kraus has won the individual title at all three meets Wake Forest has competed in this season, including the Appalachian State Invitational and the Lou Onesty Invitational.

Kraus' first place run at Iona helped Wake Forest to a first place team finish out of 21 teams competing. The Demon Deacons finished ahead of second place Dartmouth, which was ranked third in the nation at the time. Due in large part to the efforts of Kraus, Wake Forest has jumped to No. 6 in the latest coaches' poll, tying the mark for the highest ranking in school history.

Kraus will be back in action this weekend as the Wake Forest women's cross country team will compete at the Wake Forest Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The race will be the lone home meet of the 1998 season for the Demon Deacons.
