HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team was unable to improve its play of the first round and dropped three places in the team standings to eighth after 36 holes of play at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational. The 54 hole event is being contested at the 6,257-yard, par-72 layout of the Arthur Hills Golf Club at Palmetto Hall in Hilton Head Island, SC.
The Demon Deacons finished with a team round of 308 on Saturday and stand at 305-308=613 after two rounds of competition. That total puts them 18 shots off the pace of team leader Southern California which is at 298-297=595 after 36 holes. Jennifer Rosales of Southern California is the tournament's individual leader after she carded her second straight round of 71 to stand at 2-under-par 71-71=142, which is good enough for a two-shot advantage.
Freshman Kate Brenny (Little Falls, MN) leads the Deacon individuals as she is one of three players tied for seventh place at 3-over-par 73-75=148. Joining Brenny in the tournament's top 10 is sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain), who carded a 1-over-par 73 on the second day of play and is alone in tenth place at 76-73=149.
The remaining WFU individuals in the field include junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who is tied with two other players in 36th place at 77-78=155, and freshman Camille Lee (Orlando, FL), who struggled in the second round and is in 55th place at 79-82=161. Rounding out the Deacon contingent in the field is senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN), who is tied for 58th place with a two-day total of 81-83=164.
The Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational will conclude Sunday with the third and final round of play at the Arthur Hills Golf Club.
