Women's Golf Finishes 11th at SMU/OSU Challenge

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Wake Forest women's golf team struggled during the final round of play to finish 11th at the SMU/OSU Challenge. The 54-hole event was contested at the par-71, 5,912-yard layout of the Palos Verdes Golf Club in Palos Verdes, CA.
The Demon Deacons finished the tourney with a third-round score of 324 and a 54-hole total of 306-306-324=936. That total put the Deacs well off the pace of team champion Georgia which finished with a total of 301-301-299=901. Jennifer Rosales of Georgia captured individual medalist honors as she finished the event at 72-70-74=216.
Sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain) led the Demon Deacon contingent in the field as she finished as part of a seven-way tie for 12th place at 76-72-81=229. Following Prieto in the individual standings was junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who finished tied with five other players in 38th place with a three-day total of 74-76-85=235. Senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) continued her consistent play and finished tied with four others in 44th place at 79-78-79=236. Freshmen Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT) in 54th place at 77-81-81=239 and Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN) in 66th place at 80-80-83=243, rounded out the Demon Deacon individuals in the field.
The Demon Deacons will take a month off before returning to action March 12-14 when they will compete in the Caso de Campo Intercollegiate in La Romano, Dominican Republic.
