Women's Golf Finishes Eighth at Palmetto Dunes

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team finished play at the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational with a team round of 309 to finish eighth in the final team standings. The 54 hole event was contested at the 6,257-yard, par-72 layout of the Arthur Hills Golf Club at Palmetto Hall in Hilton Head Island, SC.
The Demon Deacons finished with a three-day team total of 305-308-309=922, or 58-over-par. That score put them 27 shots off the pace of team champion Arizona at 303-300-292=895. The Wildcats captured the team title by defeating Southern California (298-297-300=895) in a playoff. Southern California's Jennifer Rosales took home individual medalist honors as she finished play with a three-day total of 71-71-72=214.
The Deacon individuals in the field were led by sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain), who had her first top 10 finish of the year as she was among four players tied for sixth place at 76-73-73=222.
Joining Prieto in the field's final top 20 was freshman Kate Brenny (Little Falls, MN), who was part of a five-way tie for 19th place at 73-75-80=228. Following Brenny in the individual standings was junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN), who tied with two others in 32nd place with a 54-hole total of 77-78-76=231.
Rounding out the Deacon individuals in the field were freshman Camille Lee (Orlando, FL), who finished in a three-way tie for 54th place at 79-82-80=241, and senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN), who completed play in the three-day event with a total of 81-83-82=246.
The Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational concluded Wake Forest's fall schedule and the Deacons will not be in action again until February 8-10 when they travel to Los Angeles, CA for SMU-OSU Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Golf Club.
