Women's Golf Places Seventh at Longhorn Classic

AUSTIN, TX--The Wake Forest women's golf team finished in seventh place at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Classic held this weekend at the par 72, Great Hills Golf Club in Austin, Texas. The Demon Deacons recorded a team round of 320 on Sunday in the final round of play to finish with a team total of 307-325-320=952. Wake finished 34 shots behind eventual team champion North Carolina (299-301-318=918).
The Deacons were led by junior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN/Martinsville) who finished alone in 16th place after carding her second straight 79 in the final round to complete play at 18-over-par,77-79-79=235. That total was twelve shots behind individual champion Anna Becker of Texas A&M who finished at six-over-par, 77-71-74=222.
Joining Wagner in the top 20 individual finishers was freshman Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain/Academia Pre-Universitaria) who finished the 54-hole event tied with one other player for 19th place at 77-80-79=236. Sophomore Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN/Grand Rapids) struggled to a final round score of 85 and dropped 15 places in the individual standings to stand tied with four other players in 31st place at 75-81-85=242.
Rounding out the Deacon contingent in the field was senior Alexandra Armas (Las Palmas, Canary Islands/British School of Gran Canaria) who finished alone in 36th place at 78-85-79=242 and sophomore Stefanie Reynolds (Landenberg, PA/Kennett) who finished in a tie for 52nd place at 84-85-83=252.
