Baseball Names Assistant Coach

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Mike Rikard has been named an assistant coach for the Wake Forest baseball program, head coach George Greer announced.
Rikard, who previously worked as an assistant coach with the Demon Deacons from 1995 through 1997, returns to Wake Forest after a year as an assistant at Elon College.
Rikard has already held three head coaching positions during the summer months in the Arizona Summer Collegiate League, the Shenandoah Valley League and the Coastal Plains League.
A former shortstop at nearby UNC Greensboro, he played in 168 games over the span of four seasons with the Spartans. Rikard helped lead the team to a 39-18 record and their first NCAA Regional appearance in 1994. He earned a bachelor's degree in Sports Management from UNC Greensboro in 1995.
Rikard, who comes from a family rich in baseball tradition, is the nephew of fromer Major Leaguer Culley Rikard, who played with the Pittsburgh Pirates fom 1941-47, and the son of Bob Rikard, a catcher in the minor leagues for eight years.
Rikard will work primarily with the infielders and hitters at Wake Forest while also assisting in recruiting.
