The Demon Deacons will look to even the series on Saturday, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 12 Wake Forest baseball team (15-3, 3-1 ACC) dropped the first game of the series against No. 20 Florida State (14-3, 1-0 ACC) by a score of 10-0 on Friday night at David F. Couch Ballpark.
Junior centerfielder Javar Williams extended his current hit streak to five games as he beat out an infield single in the first inning. Meanwhile, freshman Andrew Costello notched a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the seventh for the Deacs' only other hit.
Freshman reliever Marcelo Harsch recorded his best outing of his career as he totaled three strikeouts across 1.1 scoreless frames.
HOW IT HAPPENED
"It was a disappointing start to the series. That is not the way we drew it up. We knew coming in that Medez was one of the better pitchers in the league. We should have had a better approach. We really didn't take anything away. We let him go out there and do whatever he wanted to do. We didn't take away the fastball or the offspeed pitches. We just sat in between pitches. Part of that is getting down in the game early and getting frustrated. Once they get a lead like that, they are able to just be out there free swinging. We were a little tight. That was a combination of all of those things coming together. Blake (Morningstar) didn't have his good stuff. He didn't have his good fastball. On a day where the wind is blowing out and you don't have your good stuff, you are going to get punished. Give credit to Florida State. When he made a mistake, they caught balls on the barrel and got them out of the yard. We have Lev
(Chris Levonas) going tomorrow. I like the matchup tomorrow. We lost game one of the series. We lost game one of the series at Florida State last year. We'll come ready to play tomorrow and get a good start out of Lev and be in good shape." - Head Coach Tom Walter
