Demon Deacons Finishes Third at ACC Championship

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Led by sophomore Marta Prieto (Sevilla, Spain), the Wake Forest women's golf team finished third at the ACC Championships on Sunday. The tournament was played at the par 72, 5,950-yard layout of the Grandover East Golf Course in Greensboro, NC.
The Demon Deacons improved on their first two rounds on Sunday, as they recorded a 300 in the final round to finish the 54-hole event at 303-304-300=907. The Deacons finished 17 strokes off the pace of team champion Duke, which completed play at 291-301-298=890. The Blue Devils' Beth Bauer captured individual medalist honors as she recorded an even-par 71-73-72=216.
Prieto carded a career-best 70 on Sunday to finish in a tie for fourth place at 6-over-par 75-77-70=222. Freshman Katie Brenny (Little Falls, MN) was the next Deacon individual in the field, as she had a career-best sixth place finish at 73-74-78=225. Following Brenny in the individual standings was fellow first-year player Nicole Faniola (Old Lyme, CT), who tied for 11th place at 76-79-77=232. Junior Kelly Kirwin (Grand Rapids, MN) was the next Deacon individual, as she finished in a three-way tie for 13th place at 80-80-75=235. Rounding out the Demon Deacons in the field was senior Kristen Wagner (Martinsville, IN) in 16th place at 79-74-84=237.
