McDonough Named Assistant At Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- Paul McDonough has been named Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Wake Forest University, Head Coach Jay Vidovich announced recently. McDonough joins the Demon Deacon staff this spring as Vidovich's second full-time assistant.
McDonough comes to Wake Forest from the University of South Carolina Spartanburg, where he served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. During his coaching tenure at USCS, McDonough helped guide the Rifles to a 48-16-5 combined record, including an appearance in the 1995 NCAA Division II Finals and the 1997 Regional Finals. McDonough has also coached with the Spartanburg Youth Soccer Club since 1995, leading both his Under-12 and Under-16 teams to South Carolina State Championships last fall.
A native of Marshfield, Mass., McDonough attended Massasoit Community College from 1991-93, where he helped the Warriors to the NJCAA national semifinals and earned NSCAA Junior College All-America honors in 1992. He attended South Carolina Spartanburg from 1993-96, helping his team to NCAA Tournament berths in both 1993 and 1994. He received his bachelor's degree in physical education from USCS in 1996, and is currently pursuing a master's degree in higher education at USCS.
