Wake Forest Announces Men's Track Signees

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Eight men's track and field athletes have signed a national letter-of-intent to attend Wake Forest University on a track scholarship this fall, head coach John Goodridge announced.
Three state champions head this list is, including Philip Wiles (Huntsville, AL / Huntsville High School) who was the Alabama state champion in three events -- cross country, the 1,600 meters and the 3,200 meters. Jimmy Butler (Albuquerque, NM / Eldorado High School) joins the Wake Forest program after capturing the New Mexico state championship in both cross country and the 1,600. Rounding out the trio is Chris Estwanik (Dublin, OH / Coffman High School), who captured the Ohio state title in the 1,600.
Garrick Hill (Mocksville, NC / Davie High School) joins Goodridge's squad after a solid prep career in nearby Mocksville where he placed third in the North Carolina state championships in the 3,200.
Mike Altieri (Carmichael, CA / Jesuit High School) was the California state runner-up in the 3,200 and placed eighth in the country in the National Cross Country Championships.
Rounding out the signees are Ryan Hamilton (Greenville, SC / R.L. Mann High School), the South Carolina state runner-up in the 400 meters, Sean Nagorny (York, PA / Suburban High School), the runner up in the 3,200 meters at the Pennsylvania State Championships, and Greg Groninger (Brentwood, TN / Brentwood Academy), the runner-up in the 400 meters in the Tennessee private school division.
All eight athletes will join a Wake Forest cross country program which was ranked 25th in the country and placed second in the Atlantic Coast Conference last fall, their 10th consecutive first or second place conference finish.
