WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - A pair of All-Americans in seniors Jill Snyder (Lewisburg, PA) and Janelle Kraus (Shelter Island, NY) will lead the Wake Forest women's track and cross country program into what appears to be a very promising season in 1999-2000.
Snyder, who competes primarily in the 800 and 1,500 meters in addition to running cross country, is coming off a successful outdoor track season which saw her earn All-America honors in the 1,500 meters.
An All-Atlantic Coast Conference performer for the second consecutive season, Snyder owned the fastest time in the ACC in the 1,500 meters (4:20.69) during the 1999 season. In cross country, she was consistently among Wake Forest's top four performers and she earned All-Southeast Region honors with her 14th place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional.
Kraus, who specializes in cross country and the distance events on the track, is the two-time defending ACC Champion in cross country. An All-ACC performer in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, Kraus has captured the league title in the 5,000 meters in each of the last two seasons. In 1999, she placed 12th in the nation in the 5,000 event.
On the cross country course, Kraus captured six individual titles in eight meets during the 1998 season. She now owns a Wake Forest record 10 individual titles in her storied career. She earned All-America honors in cross country during the 1997 season.
Overall, the Demon Deacons return 25 letterwinners from last year's track & field and cross country squad. For the upcoming cross country season, which begins in early September, the Deacs return five of their top seven runners from a year ago on a team that placed 15th in the nation.
