LOUISVILLE, Kty. -- The ninth-ranked Wake Forest field hockey team continued its best start in school history with a 6-0 win over the University of the Pacific here Sunday.
Jennie Shelton and Jenny Everett led the Deacons with two goals apiece, while Amy Marchell and Maria Whitehead scored one goal each in the winning effort.
Shelton scored her first goal at the 23:29 mark in the first half off an assist from Jemima Cameron. Everett scored both of her goals late in the first half to give Wake a 3-0 halftime lead. Her first goal came with 7:22 remaining off an assist from Samantha Rush, and her second goal came with 4:54 to go in the half.
Marchell scored her goal off another assist from Cameron at the 32:05 mark in the second half. Seven minutes later, Shelton scored her second goal of the day, and Whitehead finished the scoring with a goal with 32 seconds to play off an assist from Shelton.
Wake Forest is now 7-0 with the win. They will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 25 when they open ACC play at fourth-ranked Maryland. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
