
No. 13 Clemson Holds Off Women's Volleyball

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Alison Coday recorded 22 kills and 11 digs as No. 13 Clemson held off a strong Wake Forest team, 3-2, in an ACC volleyball match at Reynolds Gymnasium. The match was the conference season opener for both squads.
Wake Forest (10-3, 0-1 ACC) opened the match by reeling off eight straight points on the Tigers (10-0, 1-0) and went on to win the first game 15-10. Clemson, who had not lost a game in its previous nine matches, rebounded to win the second game, 15-11. The Demon Deacons recorded an impressive .345 hitting percentage to take Game 3, 15-6, but the Tigers rallied to win Game 4, 15-7. The two teams stayed neck-and-neck through the fifth and final game, but Clemson used a late 7-2 run to win 15-11 and put the match away.
Four Demon Deacons recorded double-doubles in the loss, led by junior setter Julie Cowley's 66 assists and 19 digs. Senior Sharon Harmsworth recorded 19 kills and 20 digs, while senior Katie Horne had 19 kills and 11 digs. Sophomore Trina Maso de Moya added 15 kills and a team-high 28 digs.
Clemson setter Jessi Betcher tallied 61 assists in the win, while Emily Gorla had 12 kills and 24 digs.
Wake Forest next hosts Georgia Tech on Friday, Sept. 24, at 7:00 pm in Reynolds Gym.
