WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- The Demon Deacon cross country teams prepare for the NCAA Regional Championships in Greenville, S.C. Nov. 11. Wake Forest will join ACC foes Duke, North Carolina, NC State and Virginia at the meet. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, held Nov. 20 in Ames, Iowa.
The 23rd-ranked women are coming off a third place finish at the ACC Championships Oct. 28 in Raleigh, N.C. Sara Day led the Deacs, finishing second with a time of 18:03, earning herself all-conference honors. Wake?s women were at the site of the regional championship on Oct. 14 when the Deacons won the Furman Invitational/Pre-Regional title, beating 31 teams. Sara Day finished first of the collegians at the event and second overall with a time of 17:34 on the 5,000 meter course. Day, a senior from Winston-Salem, N.C., has led the Demon Deacons in all five races that she has competed in this season, finishing no lower than fourth place.
The men's squad finished 4th at the ACC Championships Oct. 28 and will also compete Nov. 11 at the regionals in Greenville. Ted DeVos earned all-american honors in Raleigh, taking fourth place with a time of 25:16 on the 8,000 meter route. DeVos, a junior from Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., has led the Demon Deacons in three races this season.
