Deacon Golfers Finish In Sixth Spot At ACC/SEC Tourney

Destin, FL - Destin, FL - The fourth-ranked Wake Forest women's golf team finished in sixth place after completing three rounds of golf with a 935 at the SEC/ACC Shootout at the Sandestin Resort Sunday afternoon.
Wake shot one of the lowest scores of the day on Sunday, firing a 307 to top all other ACC schools in the field. Senior Marta Prieto led the Deacs, shooting the two lowest scores of the trip in the final two rounds. Prieto carded a 74 in the second and final rounds to finish in a tie for ninth place with a 230.
Sophomores Maria Beautell and Nuria Clau each penciled in a 231 on their scorecard for the event, tying two other golfers for 12th place. Junior Katie Brenny shot a 245 during the three-day event and finished in a tie for 40th place. Freshman Deborah Means took the 49th spot, shooting her lowest score of the event in the final round. Means finished with a three-round 250.
Auburn took team honors at the event, finishing one stroke ahead of Mississippi State, with a three-round 908. The Tigers also saw one of their own take individual medalist honors, as Celeste Troche carded two 71s and a 70 to wind up with a one-under 212. Mississippi State's Anna Gertsson placed second with a 215.
The Deacs will next take the course at the Tar Heel Invitational October 6-8 in Chapel Hill, NC.
