Deacons Wrap Up Tar Heel Invitational In 11th Place.

Chapel Hill, NC - The fourth-ranked Wake Forest women's golf squad completed competition at the Tar Heel Invitational in Chapel Hill, finishing the event in 11th place with a three-round team score of 947.
The 11th-place finish marked the lowest finish of the season for the Deacons, who were competing in their third tournament this fall. Wake fell seven spots to 11th from yesterday's sixth-place finish. The Deacs listed second after the first round of the Tar Heel Invite.
Senior Marta Prieto was the only member of the Deacon lineup to shoot under 80 in Sunday's round. Prieto finished in a tie for 11th place after carding a three-round 228. She carded a six-over 78 in today's round. Sophomore Maria Beautell capped the three-day tournament with an 85 in the final round. She shot a 237 through 54 holes and finished in 29th place.
Sophomore Nuria Clau completed Sunday's round with an 86 - the highest Deacon score during the tournament to count towards the team score. She finished with a three-round 242 and in a tie for 50th. Freshman Deb Means proved consistent at the Tar Heel, shooting an 84 on the final two days of the event to wrap up her third collegiate tournament with a 243. Means placed in a tie for 55th place. Katie Brenny, a junior, rounded out the Wake five with a three-round 250. Brenny shot a 90 in Sunday's round and finished tied for 76th place.
Duke University earned team honors, shooting a 309 - the lowest score of the day - to finish with an 894 through the 54-hole event. Two Blue Devils won individual honors. Candy Hannemann and Leigh Anne Hardin tied each other for first place after each carding a four-over 220.
The Deacons will next compete in the Lady Paladin Invitational in Greenville, SC October 20-22 - the team's final event of the 2000 fall season.
