Baseball's Sullivan Named Preseason All-American

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association selected Wake Forest outfielder Cory Sullivan as part of its second team preseason All-American team. The organization announced its 2001 preseason All-American team on Thursday.
The senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., played and started in all 62 games in 2000 while posting team-best marks with a .374 average, 102 hits, 71 runs and 23 stolen bases. Sullivan also hit nine home runs and drove in 50 runs.
Over the summer, Sullivan played for Yarmouth-Dennis of the Cape Cod League. He was selected to the league?s all-star team and played against a Team USA Select Team at Boston?s Fenway Park. Sullivan was fifth in hits and RBI in the league that has produced dozens of major league all-stars.
Sullivan is one of six returning everyday position players for head coach George Greer?s squad in 2001. The Deacs also bring back a strong nucleus of pitching. Wake Forest finished the 2000 season in fourth-place finish in the ACC with a 41-20-1 record, the team?s third straight 40-plus win season.
The Demon Deacons open up their 86th season of baseball on February 9 at Hooks Stadium against James Madison.
