Durham, NC - The Wake Forest men's soccer team was dropped a 2-1 contest to Duke on Saturday night at Koskinen Stadium in Durham. The Blue Devils' Ali Curtis scored the gamewinning goal with less than five minutes to go in regulation.

The Demon Deacons grabbed a 1-0 lead on Jaron Barbee's goal at 20:05 on an assist from Jeremiah White. The goal was Barbee's fourth of the season and 18th of his career. That figure gives him sole possession of eighth place at the school's all-time leading scorer.

Much of the first half was spent in the Duke end as Wake outshot the Blue Devils 6-4 and took seven corner kicks in the first 45 minutes to Duke's one. At the intermission, Wake Forest held onto a one-goal lead on Barbee's goal in the 21st minute.

Duke struck back in the 66th minute on a Trevor Perea goal. His goal was assisted by Jordan Cila and Nii-Amar Amamoo. Curtis tallied the gamewinner at 85:33 on an assist from Dwayne Harris.

The game was marked by the debut of goalkeeper William Hesmer. The freshman from Wilson, North Carolina, made one save. Hesmer started in place of Rob Vartughian who had played every second of the season in goal prior to Saturday's contest.

Wake Forest finishes the regular season 10-6-1 overall, 2-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

For the third straight year, the ACC championship will be decided on the field at Spry Soccer Stadium on the Wake Forest campus. The Demon Deacons enter the ACC tournament as the five-seed and will play Clemson on Thursday night in the third quarterfinal game of the day. The scheduled start time is 8:00 p.m.
