Postseason Hunt
  • Wake Forest is looking to make its push into the postseason, currently sitting 48th in RPI but with more than enough opportunity to play itself into the NCAA tournament with matches against Notre Dame (RPI #33) and high-quality opponents in the ACC tournament next week.
  • The Deacs are unable to host a first-round ACC match (Nov. 5), but have a chance to host a second-round clash at Spry Stadium on Nov. 9 if things fall their way.
    • They currently sit 11th in the table on six points with a chance to leapfrog Virginia Tech in 10th with a win on Friday. Click here for the full ACC standings heading into the final day.
  • Recognized annually as the toughest soccer conference in the country from top to bottom, the ACC has placed the most teams in the NCAA Tournament each of the last 12 seasons and has had at least five teams earn a bid 24-straight seasons.
  • During the 2024 NCAA Tournament, the ACC earned nine bids including seven national seeds.
  • Wake Forest has received an NCAA Tournament bid 14-straight seasons, eight years more than any other ACC program.

Quick Notes
  • Since 2015, Muuss has led the Deacs to a stellar 70-26-20 overall record against conference opponents (including postseason).
    • Also under Muuss, Wake Forest is 110-19-14 against unranked opponents.
  • Spry Stadium has been a fortress for the Demon Deacons ever since Muuss took over, with Wake Forest holding a stellar 116-21-16 record at home since 2015, the most wins in the country.
    • The Demon Deacons have only dropped two of their last 23 matches at Spry Stadium with wins in 10 of the last 16.
      • The Deacs hold a 14-2-7 home record since Aug. 25 of last year.
  • 13 separate Demon Deacons have contributed to the 32 goals scored so far this season, with Tate Lorentz and Cooper Flax leading the way with six apiece.
    • Lorentz and Flax form one of the most productive duos in the ACC, combining for 12 goals and 34 points, which accounts for over one-third of Wake's total scoring output.
    • Wake Forest's 32 goals this year ranks tied for 17th in the country and tied for fourth in the conference.
    • The Deacs are also tied for fifth in the ACC in assists (29) and fourth in total points (93).
  • The Demon Deacons currently hold a plus-10 goal-differential in 2025, the seventh-best in the ACC.
  • In the last home ACC match, freshman star Alfred Debah recorded his first collegiate goal against Louisville following a brilliant touch, run and finish with just 28 seconds remaining in the first half.
    • Debah's great run of form saw him earn his first-ever start at Pitt last Friday.
  • In addition to the great triple save, Mednard tied a career-high with six saves in Pittsburgh, the third time he reached that mark.
    • He is now fifth in the ACC with 46 total stops on the year.

Series History
  • This will mark the 16th all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Notre Dame, with the Demon Deacons leading the series, 7-5-3.
    • Wake Forest holds a 4-3-1 record against the Fighting Irish at home.
    • It will look to win against the Irish at Spry for the first time since a 1-0 win on Nov. 6, 2016.
  • The most recent meeting came in 2023, when Wake Forest and sixth-ranked Notre Dame battled to a 1-1 draw at Spry Stadium.
  • The Deacs' last win over the Irish came in 2021, a 3-2 road victory during the spring season.
  • The first meeting came on Oct. 30, 1982 resulting in a 2-1 home victory for the Demon Deacons.
    • Wake Forest went on to win the first four matches in the series before falling to the Irish for the first time in 2013.
  • The Deacs have picked up four clean sheets across the 15 matches and have been shutout just twice.

Scouting the Irish
  • Notre Dame enters the weekend with an 8-4-4 overall record and a 3-2-2 mark in ACC play, sitting on 11 points and in eighth place.
    • The Irish are 2-1-2 away from home this season and are coming off of a 1-0 victory at Boston College last Friday.
  • Offensively, Notre Dame averages 1.50 goals per game and has outscored opponents 24-18 across 16 matches.
  • Wyatt Borso leads the team with five goals, followed by Mitch Ferguson with four.
    • Ferguson recorded a hat trick in the 3-2 win over Wright State on Sept. 23.
  • Luke Burton (3g, 3a), Nolan Spicer (2g, 7a), and Alex Rosin (2g, 3a) headline a deep and balanced attack that has produced 27 assists on 24 total goals.
    • Spicer's seven assists rank fifth in the ACC and 17th nationally.
  • Defensively, the Irish have been anchored by sophomore goalkeeper Blake Kelly, who has started every match and owns a .753 save percentage with five shutouts.
  • Notre Dame has held opponents to 1.13 goals per game and has gone 6-0-0 this season when scoring at least twice.

Viral Deacs
  • Wake Forest men's soccer went viral over the weekend as the video of Jonah Mednard's incredible triple save following a Pitt penalty broke multiple Wake Forest athletics social media records.
  • On Instagram, the video has already reached over 55 million views and 1.5 million likes, the most in Demon Deacon history.
  • The Wake Forest Men's Soccer Instagram account has also gained over 2,000 followers during that span.
  • Additionally, the play earned the No. 1 spot on Friday night's Sportscenter Top 10 plays.

Elite Month for the Captain
  • Team captain Cooper Flax has turned in a stellar stretch of form this fall, powering Wake Forest's attack with a series of record-worthy performances.
  • Flax ignited his hot streak on Sept. 22 against Liberty, delivering his first career hat trick and adding an assist for a seven-point outing, the first by a Demon Deacon since Roald Mitchell's performance against Winthrop in 2022.
    • His finishes included two early penalties—both earned by freshman Chandler Young—before he capped the hat trick with a curling free kick from outside the box in the 68th minute
  • The senior midfielder followed that up with another commanding display against Clemson (Sept. 26), converting a 13th-minute penalty before recording his first career multi-assist game, including helpers on both of Wake's subsequent goals
  • Flax stayed decisive on the road, netting his fifth goal of the season—again from the spot—in the 86th minute at California to secure a 2–1 victory
  • He then found the back of the net once more in the 80th minute against Wofford, salvaging a 2–2 draw to close non-conference play unbeaten.
  • Last time out at Pitt, he once again showcased his incredible ability on set pieces, as he assisted the late equalizer from a corner and now has at least one goal contribution in five of the last seven matches.
  • Now sitting on six goals and six assists for a team-high 18 points, Flax is tied with Tate Lorentz for the goal lead on the squad, leads outright in the other two categories and continues to rank among the ACC's elite in total points and goal contributions.
  • The 2024 All-American has now totaled 18 career goals, moving into a tie for 20th on Wake Forest's all-time scoring list.
  • He is also one of just two ACC players this season with at least six goals and six assists, along with Ransford Gyan (Clemson), underscoring his all-around impact as both scorer and creator.

The Hometown Kid
  • Winston-Salem native Tate Lorentz has enjoyed a breakout campaign since transferring to Wake Forest ahead of the 2025 season. The redshirt sophomore sits tied for the team lead in goals (6) while sitting second on the squad in points (16) — numbers that also place him among the ACC's top 10 in both categories.
  • Lorentz has been one of the most clinical finishers in the conference, converting six of just 17 total shots for an incredibly efficient .353 shot percentage, the best mark on the roster.
  • He's added four assists, highlighted by a five-point performance (2 G, 1 A) against UNCW on Sept. 16, his first-career brace and the highest single-match point total by any Deac this season outside of Cooper Flax's Liberty hat trick.
  • The former North Carolina Tar Heel has proven his knack for showing up in big moments and has been an incredible addition to the squad.

Last Time Out (vs. Pitt)
  • Thanks to an 88th minute header by sophomore Harvey Sarajian, the Wake Forest men's soccer team (6-3-6, 1-3-3 ACC) took a point in its final road match of the regular season with a 1-1 draw with Pitt (5-6-4, 1-4-2 ACC) at Ambrose Urbanic Field Friday evening.
  • In a career-game, goalkeeper Jonah Mednard finished with six saves against the Panthers. His night started with an unbelievable triple-save in the second minute, as he stopped a penalty and two follow-up shots to keep the match scoreless. He would go on to make four more saves in the first half alone and kept the Deacs in the contest.
  • Pitt took the lead in the 71st minute, but the Deacs battled back and found a much-deserved equalizer in the 88th minute after senior midfielder Cooper Flax's corner found Sarajian. It marked his second goal for Wake Forest and the sixth of his collegiate career.
  • Now sitting on six goals and six assists for 18 total points, Flax extended his team lead and has recorded at least one goal contribution in five of the last seven matches.

National Leader In Wins
  • Named the fourth head coach in program history prior to the start of the 2015 season, Bobby Muuss' Demon Deacon squads have built on the longstanding and rich 45-year history of the program.

    • During that span, Wake Forest is also joined only by Indiana as the only Division I programs to have won at least 10 matches every season.
  • Additionally, Wake Forest and Indiana are the only two programs of the 211 programs nationally to hold double-digit NCAA Tournament appearance streaks.
  • Wake Forest also leads the nation in wins over the last quarter-century (363), five more than second-most Maryland (358).
