Wake Baseball Powers Past Virginia Tech, 13-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Three Wake Forest pitchers combined for a six-hit shut out as the Deacons defeated the Virginia Tech Hokies 13-0 and swept the two game series between the Deacons and the Hokies.
Freshman Ben Clayton (3-0) pitched the first six innings giving up no runs on five hits and striking out six batters to pick up the win. Matt Briggs pitched the next two innings surrendering only one hit and Ryan Braun came on to close the game out for the Deacs. Jason Beale (1-1) pitched 6 1/3 innings giving up seven runs on 10 hits to take the loss for the Hokies.
Wake Forest scored in every inning except the sixth. The Deacons put up two runs in the first and then scored one in each of the next four innings. They finished the scoring out with three runs in the seventh and four in the eighth.
Center fielder Cory Sullivan went 3-for-4 with one RBI for Wake Forest. Catcher Dan Conway went 1-for-4 on the day with a three-run home run, his third of the season. Conway drove in four runs on the day. For Virginia Tech, Brad Bauder and Ryan Murphy had two hits apiece.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 7-2 on the season, while Virginia Tech drops to 3-3 with the loss. Wake Forest will be back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 29 when it travels to Davidson, NC to take on the Davidson Wildcats. The first pitch is set for 3 p.m.
