Wake Forest Continues To Play Well In Puerto Rico

RIO MAR, Puerto Rico - The Wake Forest men's golf team bettered its score from yesterday by one shot, carding a total of 286 and continuing to hold on to fifth place at the Puerto Rico Classic. The tournament is being held on the 6,945 yard, par 72 course at Rio Mar Country Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico.

After 36 holes of competition the Deacons are alone in fifth place after shooting 287 on the first day and 286 on the second for a total of 573, seven shots behind leader Georgia Tech. The ACC is fairing well as the top five teams in the tournament come from the conference. North Carolina State, Clemson, and Duke stand in second, third, and fourth respectively.

In the individual competition Deacon freshman Buck Williams stands in a tie for sixth place after firing a 2-under 70 today after carding a 71 yesterday for a total of 141. He stands four shots behind tournament leader Bryce Molder of Georgia Tech who also shot a 70 today after carding a 5-under 67 yesterday for a 7-under total of 137. Also fairing well for Wake Forest were sophomore Jay Morgan who stands at a two day total of 143 after shooting a 1-under 71 today and freshman Chad Wilfong who shot his second straight even par round of 72 leaving him in a tie for 18th place with a total of 144.

The final round of competition is tomorrow, February 29, with rounds beginning at 8:00 AM.
