TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State Seminoles defeated Wake Forest, 76-47, Thursday night at the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center, avenging its 64-59 loss to the Demon Deacons a month ago. The Noles improved to 9-11 overall, 2-7 in the ACC with the win while the Deacons' record falls to 6-15 overall and 2-8 in the ACC. Latavia Coleman and April Traylor led the Tribe with 17 points apiece in the 29 point victory while Levys Torres led all players in rebounding with a season-high 10 boards for the Noles. Kristen Shaffer led the Demon Deacons with 14 points.

Traylor, a sophomore, opened the scoring for the Noles just 0:29 into the game and there was no turning back. With 15:54 remaining in the first half, the Tribe jumped ahead 9-2. The Seminoles continued to build on their lead, but Wake responded three times to close the gap to seven. The home team rallied. From the 11:04 mark to the 5:49 mark, the Tribe went on a 10-1 run to earn its largest lead of the half at 27-11. Freshman Katelyn Vujas grabbed five rebounds and put in two points to preserve the lead as the Noles never let the Deacons get closer than 11 points and headed to the locker room with a 33-22 advantage. Coleman led the scoring in the first half with 12 points, while Wake's Shaffer put in eight points. The Seminoles shot 52 percent (16-31) from the floor, while the Deacs shot just 28 percent on 9-of-32.

The second half was more of the same for the dominating Tribe. The Deacs opened the half by closing the Seminole lead to nine at 33-24, but that was the closest they would come. FSU outscored Wake Forest 43-25 during the half and led by as many as 30 at 74-44 with 1:52 remaining. Along with Coleman and Traylor, Brooke Wyckoff also hit double figures with 10 points while Torres added nine points and Vujas contributed a season-high nine boards and six points. Sophomore Lakesha Springle had a career-high seven assists. The Noles scored 23 on second chances while the Deacons' scored only four in the same manner. FSU also dominated with 32 points off turnovers to Wake's 14. The bench was strong as every Seminole saw action and the team shot 45.2 percent on 33 of 73 from the floor. The Deacons shot only 29.8 percent on 17 of 57. The Tribe outrebounded Wake by 21 with a season-high 55 rebounds.

"We showed up at the wrong time," Wake Forest Head Coach Charlene Curtis said. "FSU played a determined game. They beat us up and down the floor. They beat us on the boards. Hats off to them. They played a great game tonight."

"I'm very proud of our team," FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau said. "We played like we're capable of playing. Defensively, we did a good job, but I expect our team to play like this. It's a good win to start the second half."

The Seminoles will be on the road this weekend when they head to NC State for a 2:00 p.m. tip-off on Sunday, February 6. The Deacs will travel to Georgia Tech on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. game.
