WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Cory Sullivan went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Jason Aquilante went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 13-5 win over the East Tennessee State Buccaneers at Hooks Stadium on Tuesday.
Freshman Ben Clayton pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on two hits to pick up the win for Wake Forest and run his record to 5-2 on the season. Matthew Baber (2-4) pitched three innings, giving up eight runs on seven hits to take the loss for the Bucs.
The Deacs did most of their damage in the first three innings. Wake scored four runs in the first inning, one in the second and three in the third. They added three in the fifth, one in the seventh and one in the eighth. The Buccaneers did their only damage in the second and eighth innings. They scored three runs in the second and two in the eighth.
Dan Conway hit his third home run in two days and seventh of the season. Ryan Johnson hit his second home run of the season.
With the win, Wake improves to 14-6 on the season, while ETSU drops to 3-11. Wake will next play on Wednesday when they host the Columbia Lions. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
