Wake Baseball Shuts Out Virginia, 4-0

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Junior pitcher Scott Siemon (7-1) pitched a complete game shut out, allowing just three hits and striking out five batters to lead the 22nd-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 4-0 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers at the UVA Baseball Field on Friday.
Wake jumped on top early with a run in the top of the second inning. Dan Conway grounded out to second base to bring in Danny Borrell to give the Deacs the 1-0 lead.
The Deacons increased their advantage to 2-0 with a run in the fifth. Cory Sullivan singled to right field, driving home Jamie Athas for the run.
Wake Forest finished the scoring with two runs in the eighth. Chase Voshell singled to center field, scoring Sullivan for the first run. Conway singled to right field, bringing in Voshell to make the final score 4-0.
Conway drove in two runs and Sullivan and Voshell drove in a run apiece to lead the Deacs at the plate. David Stone, Robbie Marvin and Mark Rueffert each had a hit for the Cavaliers.
With the win, Wake improves to 19-8 overall and 4-3 in the ACC, while Virginia drops to 12-13-1 and 1-3 with the loss. The same two teams will meet again on Saturday with the first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m.
