TAMPA, Fla. -- The third-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team defeated the South Florida Bulls 9-0 on Thursday.
Freshman Adria Engel defeated Catherine Tessier 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while fellow freshman Bea Bielik played at No. 2, defeating Genevieve Houle 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Janet Bergman defeated Tina Harrison 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
Wake swept the doubles point with Engel and Bielik defeating Tessier and Harrison at No. 1 8-6. Bergman and sophomore Maren Haus defeated Houle and Jackie Spicijaric 8-2 at No. 2. At the third position, Lea Miller and Jackie Houston defeated Natalie Schwartz and Ildiko Zubar 9-8.
With the win, Wake improves to 6-1 on the season. The Deacs will be back in action on Sunday when they open ACC play by hosting the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. The match is set for a 12 p.m. start at Leighton Tennis Stadium.
