Women's Tennis Drops Final Match of Homestand to NC State

The Demon Deacons fall to .500 with the loss.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 14 North Carolina State (11-5, 4-1 ACC) defeated Wake Forest (8-8, 1-4 ACC), 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon. The Demon Deacons are now 8-8 on the year with eight regular season matches to play. They will have a quick turnaround as they head southwest to the Lone Star State to take on No. 32 SMU on Friday.
NC State's ranked doubles pairs picked up wins on courts one and two, giving the Wolfpack an early 1-0 lead. Though the match remained unfinished, Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet battled from a 4-2 deficit to a 6-6 final score on court three.
In singles, NC State took control early and never relented. The Wolfpack took a first-set lead in all six matches, and a trio of ranked players would go on to win in straight sets to clinch the match. Evie Oxford came the closest of any Demon Deacon to winning a set, as she took six games from Victoria Osuigwe in a set that came down to a tiebreaker (Osuigwe won, 7-5). She, Sankavi Gownder and Nevena Carton would all have their matches conclude without a decision.
Next up for the Demon Deacons is SMU. The Deacs beat the Mustangs last year, 4-2, in the first-ever meeting between the two as ACC foes. Wake Forest will be looking to replicate that same success on Friday and snap SMU's two-match winning streak.
Wake Forest does not return home until Friday, March 27, when it will begin a four-match home stand with a match against Syracuse.

How It Happened
"Definitely a bit of an off day for us. Coming off a big win over Florida State on Sunday and then playing at noon on a Wednesday, we just weren't as locked in as we usually are. Credit to NC State, they are a very good team and came out after a tough loss to Miami on Sunday ready to get the next opportunity. We knew going into the week that Friday at SMU would be a big test after we beat them at ACCs last April. I'm looking forward to seeing us come out and get after that one Friday."
