WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The 2nd ranked Wake Forest Women's Tennis team defeated Virginia 8-0 on Sunday at Leighton Tennis Stadium. With the win, the 2000 Deacons finish the regular season 8-0 in the ACC and become the first women's tennis team in school history to capture the regular season ACC title.
The Deacons swept the singles matches to ensure the win. At No. 1 singles, Adria Engel defeated Amy O'Donnell 6-2, 6-3. Bea Bielik defeated Christie Schweer at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Janet Bergman defeated Henriette Williams at No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-4. The Deacs' Maren Haus captured No. 4 singles, defeating Leslie Cook 6-0, 6-0. Jackie Houston defeated Jen Tuchband at No. 5 singles 6-4, 7-5. Completing the singles sweep was Annemarie Milton, who defeated Kelly Weaver at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-2.
Wake Forest finsihes the regular season with an undefeated ACC record of 8-0 and an overall record of 18-1. Ranked second in the nation, the Deacs will return to action on Friday, April 20 in Atlanta, Georgia for the ACC Championships.
