
Wake Men's Basketball Finalizes 2000-01 Signees

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest has signed two top high school prospects and will add a transfer to its roster for the 2000-01 men's basketball season head coach Dave Odom announced today.
A.W. Hamilton, a 6-3 point guard from Georgetown, KY, starred at Hargrave Military Academy a season ago. He averaged 17.9 points, 9.6 assists and 7 rebounds per contest this past season. He was a two-time All-State selection on the high school level at Scott County High School in Kentucky, and was a member of the 1998 Kentucky state championship squad.
Dshamal Schoetz, a 7-0 center who played two years at High Point's Wesleyan Academy, earned All-State honors in North Carolina as a junior and is rated one of the top 150 players nationally. Schoetz, a native of Cottbus, Germany, averaged 20.1 points, 10.1 rebounds and 4 blocks per game as a senior. He was a McDonald's High School All-America team nominee, and was named to the Winston-Salem Journal's All-Northwest Team this past season.
Guard Steve Lepore, a transfer from Northwestern University, averaged 8.2 points and 4 rebounds in his two years with the Wildcats. Lepore, a 6-5 junior from North Olmsted, OH, started all 30 games for Northwestern a season ago. He led his St. Edward High School squad to state Final Four appearances his sophomore and junior seasons before winning the Ohio High School State Championship during his senior campaign. He will sit out the 2000-01 season per NCAA guidelines, but will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.
