Men's Golf Fourth After First Day of ACC Championship

BADIN LAKE, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's golf team carded a first-round team score of 294, or 6-over par, to stand in fourth place after the first round of the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, held at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.
The Deacons stand 10 strokes behind team leader NC State, who recorded a 4-under 284 in the first round. Georgia Tech stands second at 1-under, followed by Clemson (+2), Wake (+6), North Carolina and Maryland (+7), Duke (+8), Virginia (+12) and Florida State (+17).
Sophomore Jay Morgan led the Deacs with an even-par 72 in round one. Morgan stands in an eight-way tie for eighth place, just two strokes behind the individual leaders, NC State's Carl Pettersson and Clemson's John Engler (-2).
Freshman Chad Wilfong recorded a 1-over 73 and stands in 16th place, while rookie Brent Wanner is tied for 17th after firing a 2-over 74. Freshmen Chris Yoder and Buck Williams shot 75 and 79, respectively, and stand in 30th and 40th place in the field of 45.
Second round action continues on Saturday at 8:30 am.
