Wake Men's Golf Finishes Fourth At ACC Championships

BADIN LAKE, N.C. -- The Wake Forest men's golf team carded a final round team score of 291, or 3-over par, to finish in fourth place of nine teams at the 2000 Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Easter Sunday. The event was contested on the 7102-yard, par-72 course at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point.
The Demon Deacons finished with a 54 hole score of 875, or 11-over par, and were 19 strokes behind team champion Clemson (-8). The Tigers shot a 10-under 278 on Sunday to surge from third place to win their third title in four years. Georgia tech finished second (-3), followed by NC State (-2), Wake, North Carolina (+17), Duke (+19), Virginia (+27), Maryland (+28) and Florida State (+47).
Georgia Tech's Bryce Molder won the individual conference championship with a 54-hole total of 206, or 10-under par. The Deacs' top finisher was sophomore Jay Morgan, who shot a 75 on Sunday to tie for eighth place at even-par.
Two other Deacs finished in the top 20: freshman Brent Wanner tied for 14th place at 3-over after carding a 72 on the final 18 holes, while classmate Buck Williams finished tied for 19th at 5-over after shooting a 71. Rookies Chris Yoder and Chad Wilfong finished 29th and 31st respectively after carding a 73 and a 76 in the final round.
