WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Members of the fourth-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team won the ACC's Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year honors announced by the ACC on Friday.
Freshman Adria Engel, who is currently 41-9 on the season, was picked as the league's Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year. This marks the third straight year that a Wake player has been named Rookie of the Year. Head coach Brian Fleishman, in his first full year as head coach, was named ACC Coach of the Year. This is only the fourth time that the women's tennis Coach of the Year has come from Wake Forest.
Joining Engel on the All-ACC team are sophomore Janet Bergman and freshman Bea Bielik. Bergman, who was the 1999 Rookie of the Year, holds a 36-7 record so far this season, including 7-0 against ACC competition. Bielik boasts a perfect 21-0 dual match record. She is 26-2 overall for the season and was 6-0 in ACC regular season matches.
The women's tennis team will next compete in the NCAA Tournament. The tournament field will be announced on May 4 and the tournament begins May 13.
