WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Brad Stockton, Bryan Prince and Jason Basil each had four hits to lead the third-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets to a 20-10 victory over the 14th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the second game of a three-game series at Hooks Stadium on Saturday.
Wake Forest threw seven pitchers on the day, and none of the first six Deacons on the mound lasted more than 2 1/3 innings. Starter Ryan Braun took the loss for the Deacs, pitching 1 1/3 innings giving up five runs on five hits to drop his record to 3-3 on the season. Rhett Parrott went five innings, surrendering four runs on nine hits to pick up the win for the Yellow Jackets.
"The tone of the game was definitely set when Ryan (Braun) hit the first Tech batter," Wake Forest head coach George Greer said. "If you go to the bullpen in the second inning, you're in trouble. We beat them (Georgia Tech) twice down there last year ? baseball guys tend to even things out."
Georgia Tech held a 5-2 lead after three innings, but the Yellow Jackets broke the game open in the middle three innings. The Jackets scored five runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth for a 17-4 advantage. Georgia Tech then added three runs in the seventh inning to increase its lead to 20-4. Wake scored a run in the eighth and three in the ninth to make the final 20-10. The loss was the first double-digit loss the Deacs have had this season.
Catcher Dan Conway drove in two runs to lead Wake at the plate. Prince, Basil and Mark Teixiera drove in four runs apiece to lead Georgia Tech.
With the loss, Wake drops to 37-16-1 overall and 13-10 in the ACC. Georgia Tech improves to 42-13 overall and 18-5 in the ACC. The two teams will conclude their three-game series on Sunday. The first pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
