WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Junior catcher Dan Conway went 3-for-3 with an RBI and right fielder Matt Price went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead the 14th-ranked Wake Forest Demon Deacons to a 12-5 win over the High Point Panthers at Hooks Stadium on Tuesday.
Freshman right-hander Ryan Braun (3-2) pitched four innings, giving up just one run on four hits to pick up the win for the Deacs. David Grof (0-2) gave up eight runs on 10 hits in 4 1/3 innings of work to take the loss for the Panthers.
High Point led 4-2 after 3 1/3 innings, but Wake grabbed the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the fourth. The first run was driven in by Corey Slavik's double to center field, bringing in Conway. Price then homered, bringing in Slavik to give Wake the 5-4 lead. The inning's final run was scored when Jason Aquilante singled to left field to bring in Stephen Sullivan.
Wake added two runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth to round out the Deacs' scoring. In the bottom of the eighth, Carlos Brackley unloaded his seventh home run of the season, a three-run shot that scored Slavik and Conway for the game's final runs.
With the win, Wake Forest improves to 36-14-1 on the season, while High Point drops to 18-33-1 with the loss. Wake will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to take on the Old Dominion Monarchs. The first pitch is set for 5 p.m.
