Wake Women's Soccer Signs Five Impact Players

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest head women's soccer coach, Tony da Luz, announced the signing of four women's soccer recruits and a junior transfer that will play for Wake Forest this fall. Coming off the most successful season in the program's six year history, the Demon Deacons finished 16-6-1 overall, with a third place ACC finish and advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
Roxanne Chow, a defender from Port Moody, British Columbia, is a transfer student from Simon Fraser University. In 1997 and 1998, she was an NAIA All-American and helped SFU reach two NAIA finals. In 1999 she traveled to Belgium to train with the 1998 Belgian champions, Eendracht Aalst. Chow represented Canada with the U-20 National Team at the Pan Am Games in 1999 and has also trained with the Women's National Team.
Kenna Healy, a goalkeeper from Wilmington, Del., was the 1999 Delaware Player of the Year. She was the four year Varsity Captain on her high school team Archmere Academy, as well as being an All-State Selection in four years. Healy has played for the Delaware Olympic Development Program State Team for five years as well as being a Region I Pool Player for three years.
AB (Ann Bradley) Robins, a defender from Richmond, Va., joins the Deacons as the 1999 Virginia Player of the Year. Robins was a three-time All-Region Selection for her high school team at Mills Godwin High, as well as earning All-Region honors in basketball. She was the captain of her club team, Braddock Road Legend. Robins was also a member of the Virginia Olympic Development Program State Team for six years and the Region I (Northeast) Team for four years. She is also a National Honor Society Member.
Alena Thom comes to Wake Forest from Jefferson City, Mo. as the 1999 Central Region Offensive Player of the Year. Thom, a forward/midfielder, was the three-time leading scorer and 1999 point leader (goals and assists combined) for Jefferson City High School. A 1999 All-State team selection, Thom excels off the field as well, gaining honors as Salutatorian. She is a standout player for the well-known Busch Soccer Club of Saint Louis, Mo., and was a member of the Olympic Development Program Region II Team in 1999.
Katherine Winstead is a midfielder/forward from Raleigh, N.C. A three-time all-conference selection at Broughton High School, Winstead was also named a Valedictorian off the field. An AP Scholar with Honor, Winstead made the honor roll every grading period. She led her club team to two State Championships, two as the team captain and was a three-time scoring leader. Winstead was a member of the North Carolina Development State Team for four years and a Region III Pool Player for two years. She also participated in the 1999 Adidas Elite Soccer Program.
