Wake Forest Begins Indoor Track Season

The Wake Forest track and field teams kicked off the indoor season this weekend with the women's team competing in the Hershey Relays at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, and the men's team competing in the Navy Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.
Sarah Day won the 3,000 Meter Run at the Hershey Relays with a NCAA Provisional qualifying time of 9:33. Jill Snyder won the One Mile Run with a time of 5:00. Shauna Danos captured first place in the 500 Meter Run, setting a new school record with her time of 1:15.31. Sandra Jenkins took third in the shot put with a 42'2", improving her career best by more than 16 inches.
Rachel Burns led the Deacons in the High Jump, placing sixth with a 5'2". Elizabeth Washam placed third in the pole vault, clearing 10'4". The Demon Deacons were the runner up in the Distance Medley Relay, but won both the 4x800 Meter Relay and the 4x400 Meter Relay.
Chris Estwanik, Ryan Hamilton, Patrick Ladapo claimed victories for the men's team Saturday at Navy. Estwanik won the 3,000 Meter Run with a time of 8:20, Hamilton took the 400 Meter Dash in 49.5 seconds and Ladapo captured the 200 Meter Dash in 22.6 seconds. Sean Nagorny finished second in the One Mile Run, Paul Singleton placed second in the 800 Meter Run and Patrick Ladapo was the runner up in the 55 Meter Dash.
Luke Orman placed third for the Demon Deacons in the Long Jump and took fourth in the triple jump. Nathan Sisco placed third in the 1,000 Meter Run and Garick Hill took third in the 3,000 Meter Run.
The Demon Deacons will return to action Jan. 19-20 at the Virginia Tech Invitational in Blacksburg, VA.
