The eighth-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team opens its spring dual meet season this
weekend, when it hosts Marshall and 15th-ranked William and Mary. The Deacs open the year with an 11:00 a.m. matchup
against the Thundering Herd on Saturday, then takes on the Tribe at noon on Sunday.
Both matches take place at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center, located off Deacon Boulevard behind Groves Stadium.
Admission is free for spectators.
Wake Forest's lineup includes the current No. 1 ranked singles player in collegiate women's tennis, sophomore Bea Bielik (Valley
Stream, N.Y.) Additionally, Bielik teams up with Wake junior Janet Bergman (Pinehurst, N.C.) to form the nation's No. 1
doubles team heading into the spring campaign. Both Bielik and Bergman are returning All-Americans from last season.
The Demon Deacons, under the guidance of third-year head coach Brian Fleishman, look to improve upon a stellar 2000 season in which they won a school-record 24 matches and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament.
