Volleyball Sweeps Furman, 3-0

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest volleyball wins one at home tonight against Furman, increasing winning streak at home to three games. The Demon Deacons came out to play, defeating the Lady Paladins in three games, 30-23, 30-20 and 30-25. With the win Wake improves to 11-7 overall, 4-4 in the ACC, while Furman falls to 10-7 overall, 6-5 in the Southern Conference.
Wake came out hitting tonight, recording a team hitting percentage of .383, while holding Furman to .186 percentage. It was a full team effort with kills contributed by all the players. Senior Trina Maso de Moya was the only Deacon in double figures, recording 12 kills and 13 digs. Senior Margaret Davidson posted nine kills and sophomore Jessica Hauff tallied nine kills and 10 digs for the Demon Deacons.
Head coach Valorie Baker was pleased with the win and feels it should give the team the confidence needed for the upcoming ACC home matches this weekend.
"We were definitely pleased with the win," said Baker. "As a result of this, the girls should feel confident going into the weekend. I thought Amanda Tiller did a nice job, both in blocking and offensively coming off the bench."
For Furman Abby Simon was the leading hitter with 14 kills. Three Lady Paladins recorded ten digs, Rosey Cashman, Laura Hooks and Carrie Rowley.
The Demon Deacons host Georgia Tech on Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. and Clemson on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m.
